A cool northerly forecasts a change
and the reflection of branches,
imprinted on the windowpane
like a chemical explosion past Honey Mountain,
are force enough to make me
fetch up my laptop and make more
of this day than it or I deserve.
Listening to WPA’s Roaring Days,
the neighbour’s kid doing scooterlaps
of the backyard, I can’t name the birds
that sing the dusk into darkness.
We can’t really promise anything,
but for now the lights come on,
the sun sets and the pink moon rises.
